Description of Incident
DARTMOUTH A 42-year-old Northhampton man drowned Tuesday afternoon at a private beach in South Dartmouth, police said.

Witnesses told police the victim, whose name was not immediately released, had been in the water with a family member prior to being reported missing around 3:30 p.m. A brief time later, lifeguards pulled the unconscious man from the water and began performing CPR, police said.

Emergency services personnel arrived at the scene and the victim was taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to police.

The official cause of death is under investigation by the state medical examiner's office. No additional information about the drowning was available.
