Description of Incident
A hooded and bound body of a woman found a canal was that of a missing young mother, police confirmed today.

Emma Ewart, 27, disappeared from her home nine days before a passer-by made the grim discovery in the Coventry Canal between Bedworth and Bulkington in Warwickshire.

Today the family of the mother-of-one said in a statement: 'Emma was a bubbly friendly young woman, a fantastic mum, sister, daughter, niece and friend and will be greatly missed by all.

'She will be remembered as a beautiful bright happy girl that brought joy and happiness to others and was a pleasure to be around.

'We ask at this very difficult time for family and friends to be given time to grieve for our great loss.'

A post-mortem examination of the body of Miss Ewart, from Coventry, was inconclusive, and further tests will be carried out in the coming week.

Grim find: Police sealed off the Coventry Canal in Warwickshire after the missing mother's body was found floating in the water

Forensic teams conducted a finger-tip search of the area yesterday and people in canal boats were ordered to remain inside.

One shocked canal boat user described seeing the body with a 'hood' over its head.

He said at the time: 'The body is still in the water and we don't know when we will be able to move.

'I am 25 metres away. It looked from here that the body has been bound and has a bag over its head.'

Detective Chief Inspector James Essex from Warwickshire Police said: 'This is a tragic situation for the family and I would like to extend my sympathies to them at such a difficult time.

'We are currently building a picture of Miss Ewart's last movements, where she went and who she spoke to.

'We know that she last talked to her mother near to Ikea in Coventry City Centre on May 24 at approximately 2.30pm, but we do need to find out where she went after that.

'Anyone who saw Miss Ewart between May 24 and June 2 should please contact the investigation team, by calling Warwickshire Police on 01926 415000.

'I would also like to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity around the Coventry Canal either near to the bridge by the Navigation Public House or near to the canal between Bulkington and Bedworth.'
