Description of Incident
A coroner has recorded a verdict of accidental death on a fisherman who drowned in a Gwynedd marina.

David McMurdo, 35, had been on a night out and was later found to be four times over the legal drink-drive limit, an inquest at Caernarfon heard.

Mr McMurdo, from Dumfrieshire, used Pwllheli marina regularly, and had been fishing for scallops in Cardigan Bay.

His father, James McMurdo, said of his death in February: "His life was the water and the water took him."

Marina security guard Paul Roberts said he saw Mr McMurdo get out of a taxi and walk unsteadily along the pontoon with a bag believed to contain alcohol.

Mr Roberts said he assumed Mr McMurdo had reached his boat.

He was found fully-clothed in the water the next morning.

Coroner Nicola Jones said: "No one saw him fall into the water. He may have slipped or tripped while unsteady on his feet. In all likelihood a simple accident."
