Terry Skingle, 73, drove into River Can in Chelmsford, Essex, by mistake.

A disabled driver narrowly escaped drowning yesterday after his Lexus plunged into a river in front of his wife and daughter and his foot got trapped in the seatbelt, preventing him from climbing out.

Teryy Skingle, 73, who had accidentally driven into the River Can in Chelmsford, Essex, was being pulled down as his car sank until three brave bystanders leapt into the river and dragged his car to shallower waters on the side.
