Description of Incident
A man drowned trying to swim across the River Thames, Hampton, after missing the last ferry home.

The victim, believed to be in his 20s, waded into the water wearing a rucksack near Hampton Sailing Club and attempted to swim across.

A pair of schoolboys who were sat on the river bank dived in to try and save the man after hearing the screams of a woman who was swimming with him. Pete Sullivan and Jack Sweeney, both 15, jumped in to try and save him but could not find him despite diving below the surface.
