Description of Incident
A man's body found floating in the river off Bridgemarsh Island has been confirmed as that of missing man Anthony Mayer.

The body of the 35-year-old, who had been reported missing on March 8, was recovered by police in the River Crouch last Tuesday (May 7) and at an inquest this morning his identity was confirmed.

His body was found by a member of the public on Bridgemarsh Island in the River Crouch near Althorne.

An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned in Chelmsford earlier. A post mortem examination found he died from drowning.

Police began their search for Mr Mayer after his family became concerned for his welfare. He was last seen on 7 March.

Police are not treating his death as suspicious.
