Description of Incident
Emergency services were called to an area close to the spot where the River Ceiriog meets the River Dee east of Chirk at 18:55 BST on Tuesday.

It followed reports that the man, thought to be from Shropshire, fell into the water and failed to surface.

An hour later he was found and airlifted to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

North Wales Police believe the man was with several other people when he fell into the water at Pont Llygoden.

The force said there were no suspicious circumstances.

West Mercia Police, fire crews, the ambulance service and the North Wales Police helicopter were also called to the scene.

The details have been reported to the Shropshire coroner.
