Description of Incident
THOUSANDS of tributes were paid today to 17-year-old Hayley Holmes from Birkenhead, whose body was found washed up on New Brighton beach.

The grim discovery was made at 7am yesterday morning by a dog walker at Fort Perch Rock, near New Brighton promenade.

Police today confirmed the teenager’s name as 17-year-old Hayley Holmes from Birkenhead. A post mortem examination confirmed she died as a result of drowning.

The death of the girl is being treated as “unexplained” by detectives.


Hayley’s family have been informed, police confirmed.

She was a pupil at Upton Hall School for girls in Wirral and was due to return next week to continue her studies for her AS-levels.

A tribute page on Facebook, RIP Hayley Holmes, has already attracted thousands of comments since the discovery of the body was made early yesterday.

The posts were made by the many devastated friends of the popular teenager, as well as complete strangers.
