RNLI Save Windsurfer near Porth Eirias

Rough sea at Colwyn BayA MALE windsurfer in difficulty off the Colwyn Bay coast was brought to safety by Llandudno’s RNLI inshore lifeboat.

The man, a North Wales university student in his 20s, got into trouble due to blustery conditions on Thursday, November 6.

An RNLI spokesperson said that out of immediate shelter the winds reached “gale force” along the shore.

The Llandudno RNLI were alerted by concerned residents who saw the plight of the man, and the lifeboat was launched at 11.35am from Porth Eirias.

The RNLI crew quickly picked up the man and brought him safely to shore.
He was reported as being “tired but otherwise unharmed”.

Ashore, he was met by Llandudno Coastguard who was able to give him some appropriate sea safety advice.

Water Safety Map would just like to advise extra precautions when taking to the water at this time of year. The unpredictable nature of weather makes watersports more hazardous than usual.
